The Audi Q7 is primarily a Tiptronic automatic gearbox job, but early six-speed, later eight-speed and high-torque TFSI e/SQ7 applications should not be treated as the same transmission. Vehicle weight, quattro and towing use also affect how faults present.
If the Q7 thumps into Drive, shudders at cruising speed, changes gear harshly or starts flaring under load, we test converter lock-up, valve-body pressure, internal clutch operation and the wider quattro driveline.

Early six-speed Tiptronic uses a conventional torque converter and hydraulic valve body. Pressure-control wear, converter shudder and internal clutch condition are key areas when shift quality deteriorates.
Later eight-speed Tiptronic broadens the ratio spread but retains the same basic hydraulic/torque-converter diagnostic principles. Adaptation, pressure and converter-slip data are particularly useful.
TFSI e and SQ7 variants place higher torque through the transmission and integrate more complex powertrain systems, so gearbox, quattro and hybrid/performance data need to be assessed together.
Q7 searches commonly revolve around torque-converter shudder, delayed Drive, harsh downshifts, valve-body faults, gearbox warning lights and vibration under load. Those symptoms need to be separated from the heavy quattro driveline.
Shudder at steady speed can involve torque-converter lock-up, valve-body pressure, fluid condition or quattro driveline vibration.
Delayed Drive or Reverse can result from pressure loss, converter fill, valve-body operation or internal clutch application.
Harsh shifts can be influenced by solenoids, adaptations, mounts, pressure regulation or internal wear.
A gearbox warning or limp mode means the transmission controller has detected a fault and may limit normal operation.
RPM flare under load can indicate internal clutch slip, hydraulic pressure loss or valve-body problems.
Whine, clunk or vibration can come from the gearbox, transfer case, propshaft, differential, driveshafts or wheel bearings.

A Q7 vibration under load can come from the transmission or quattro driveline, so both should be assessed.
