Xtronic CVT
Xtronic CVT changes ratio continuously rather than stepping through fixed gears. Pulley pressure, valve-body control, bearings and fluid condition are important when the car starts flaring, whining or hesitating.

The Nissan Juke is one of those models where the word 'automatic' can mean three very different systems. First-generation cars commonly use Xtronic CVT, later petrol F16 versions use a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and Hybrid models use Nissan's multi-modal electrified transmission.
That matters when the car judders away from a junction or seems to flare under acceleration. A CVT pressure problem, a DCT clutch-control issue and a Hybrid drive fault can all feel similar to the driver but need completely different testing.
The F15 Juke brought widespread Xtronic CVT use, the F16 petrol automatic moved to a seven-speed DCT, and the Hybrid introduced a multi-modal transmission combining combustion and electric-motor ratios.
| Juke generation / type | Typical UK versions | Automatic gearbox | What owners often search for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Juke F15, 2010–2019 | 1.6 petrol / DIG-T automatic derivatives | Xtronic CVT on relevant versions | Juke CVT judder, Xtronic slipping, delayed Drive |
| Juke F16 petrol, 2019–present | 1.0 DIG-T automatic | 7-speed dual-clutch transmission | Juke DCT judder, clutch fault, gearbox warning |
| Juke Hybrid, 2022–present | 1.6 petrol-electric Hybrid | Smart multi-modal hybrid gearbox, 4 ICE ratios + 2 e-motor ratios | Juke Hybrid gearbox fault, reduced power warning |
Xtronic CVT changes ratio continuously rather than stepping through fixed gears. Pulley pressure, valve-body control, bearings and fluid condition are important when the car starts flaring, whining or hesitating.
The seven-speed DCT uses two clutches with automated control. Low-speed take-up, clutch adaptation and actuator behaviour are therefore central when an F16 petrol Juke judders or feels reluctant to move.
Juke Hybrid uses a dedicated multi-modal arrangement rather than a normal CVT or DCT. Transmission symptoms must be interpreted alongside electric-motor and hybrid-system operation.
Juke owners often search for 'CVT slipping', 'DCT judder', 'gearbox warning', 'delayed Drive' or 'Hybrid reduced power'. Those searches point towards the symptom, but the generation tells us which mechanical system can actually be responsible.
A first-generation CVT can feel as though the engine is racing if ratio pressure is not being controlled correctly.
Low-speed shake on a DCT Juke can involve clutch wear, adaptation, actuator control or driveline movement during take-up.
A pause before the car moves may come from CVT hydraulic control, DCT clutch application or hybrid system coordination depending on the model.
A whining sound that follows road speed can come from CVT bearings or pulley components, but wheel bearings and final-drive parts must also be considered.
Transmission or reduced-power warnings should be read through the Nissan control modules before any valve body, clutch or hybrid part is replaced.
Harsh engagement into Drive or Reverse can result from pressure control, clutch application, adaptations or mounts rather than one universal Juke defect.
Tell us whether the Juke is CVT, DCT or Hybrid if known and whether the fault appears while creeping, accelerating, cruising or switching between hybrid drive modes. That context immediately narrows the diagnostic route.
| What you notice | How drivers describe it | Possible areas to investigate |
|---|---|---|
| Delay selecting Drive | “I select D and it takes a moment to move.” | Hydraulic pressure, clutch application, valve body, converter or actuator control |
| Judder / shudder | “It vibrates when pulling away or cruising.” | DCT clutch, CVT lock-up, converter, mounts or driveline |
| RPM flare | “The revs rise without matching acceleration.” | CVT belt/pulley pressure, clutch slip or internal wear |
| Harsh engagement | “It bangs going into Drive or Reverse.” | Pressure control, valve body, clutch application, mounts or adaptation |
| Whine / hum | “The noise follows road speed.” | CVT bearings/pulleys, differential, driveshaft or wheel bearing |
| Warning / reduced power | “The gearbox warning comes on and performance drops.” | TCM fault, high fluid temperature, pressure/control fault or fail-safe mode |
Juke DTCs are matched to the transmission family. CVT ratio and pressure faults, DCT clutch/actuator data and Hybrid control warnings are interpreted separately instead of being grouped under one generic transmission code.
| Fault code | What it broadly relates to | What may need checking |
|---|---|---|
| P0700 | Transmission control system warning request | Read the Nissan transmission control module for the underlying gearbox-specific DTCs |
| P0715 | Input / turbine speed sensor circuit | Speed-sensor signal, wiring, control data and transmission operation |
| P0722 | Output speed signal fault | Output speed signal, wiring, sensor data and transmission control |
| P0730 | Incorrect gear ratio | Commanded versus actual ratio, clutch/pulley operation, hydraulic pressure and internal wear |
| P0741 | Torque-converter clutch performance on applicable CVT/conventional automatics | Converter lock-up, valve body, hydraulic pressure and fluid condition |
An F15 Xtronic, F16 seven-speed DCT and Juke Hybrid use different operating principles and should never share the same repair assumption.
Juke repair costs range from CVT pressure/valve-body work and DCT clutch or actuator repair through to full reconditioning, while Hybrid transmission faults are priced after system-specific diagnosis.
| Nissan Juke gearbox work | Typical guide range | What can change the price? |
|---|---|---|
| Diagnostic scan and road test | From £30 | CVT, DCT or Hybrid architecture |
| DCT clutch / actuator repair | Approx. £900 - £1,700 | Clutch condition and control components |
| Xtronic CVT valve-body / pressure repair | Approx. £800 - £1,600 | Valve body, solenoids and hydraulic condition |
| Full CVT / DCT gearbox reconditioning | Approx. £2k - £4.5k+ | Transmission family and internal damage |
| Hybrid gearbox repair | Diagnosis required | Hybrid gearbox and electrical-system involvement |
We confirm Juke generation, engine and whether the car uses Xtronic CVT, seven-speed DCT or Hybrid transmission.
Nissan-compatible diagnostics are used to review ratio, pressure, clutch, actuator and hybrid data as appropriate.
The vehicle is tested during the road condition where the judder, flare, delay or warning actually appears.
We then quote the component-level or full transmission repair supported by the results.
Tell us whether your Juke is CVT, DCT or Hybrid and describe whether it is juddering, flaring, delaying into Drive, whining or showing a warning.

If engine speed rises without matching road speed, Xtronic ratio control, hydraulic pressure, pulley/belt condition or internal slip may need to be checked.
Clutch wear, adaptation, actuator control and driveline movement can all make the seven-speed DCT shake during low-speed take-up.
The cause depends on transmission type and may include CVT hydraulic pressure, DCT clutch application, control faults or Hybrid system coordination.
Yes. Hydraulic and solenoid faults can often be repaired or reconditioned once pressure and diagnostic data confirm the valve body is responsible.
No. The Hybrid uses a dedicated multi-modal electrified transmission, so CVT belt-and-pulley fault assumptions do not apply.
The page table separates CVT pressure work, DCT clutch/actuator repair and full reconditioning, while Hybrid transmission jobs require individual diagnosis.
For a Juke transmission fault, first establish CVT, DCT or Hybrid architecture and then test the pressure, clutch or electrified system that actually matches the car.
