7-Speed PDK
Every conventional-engine Macan automatic uses a seven-speed dual-clutch PDK rather than Tiptronic S.

Petrol and diesel Macan models use Porsche's seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission with Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive. The current Macan Electric is a separate electric drivetrain and should not be treated as a PDK vehicle.
If your Macan judders when pulling away, loses Reverse, displays a transmission warning, slips under hard acceleration or clunks as AWD torque transfers, we assess the PDK and PTM systems together.
ICE Macan models use seven-speed PDK across four-cylinder, V6 petrol and earlier diesel derivatives. Macan Electric uses electric drive units instead and sits outside conventional PDK repair.
| Macan version | Typical transmission / drivetrain | Key diagnostic areas | What owners often search |
|---|---|---|---|
| Macan 2.0 petrol | 7-speed PDK + PTM AWD | Clutches, mechatronic, pressure, selector, PTM | Macan PDK problems, judder, reverse fault |
| Macan S / GTS / Turbo | 7-speed PDK + PTM AWD | Higher-load clutch, mechatronic, temperature and AWD data | Macan PDK slipping, harsh shift, warning |
| Macan S Diesel | 7-speed PDK + PTM AWD | Clutch wear, pressure, diesel torque loading, PTM | Macan diesel gearbox problems, PDK shudder |
| Macan Electric | Electric drive units | Electric motor/reduction-drive systems, not PDK | Macan Electric drivetrain fault |
Every conventional-engine Macan automatic uses a seven-speed dual-clutch PDK rather than Tiptronic S.
Parking-speed shudder, flare or poor take-up can involve clutch wear and adaptation.
Pressure, selector and actuator faults can cause missing gears or transmission warnings.
Porsche Traction Management varies torque between axles; transfer and driveline faults can create clunks or vibration outside the PDK.
Macan searches are strongly fault-led: “Macan PDK judder”, “Porsche Macan reverse not working”, “PDK gearbox warning”, “Macan gearbox slipping” and “PTM fault”.
PDK clutch wear, adaptation or hydraulic control can make the Macan shudder at parking speeds.
Selector, actuator or clutch-path faults can stop specific gears engaging.
Mechatronic, speed-sensor, pressure or clutch faults can trigger restricted operation.
High load can expose clutch wear or pressure weakness, especially on performance models.
PDK behaviour that worsens after a long journey may involve temperature, pressure or clutch adaptation.
AWD driveline components can imitate a gearbox fault during torque transfer.
Tell us whether the Macan fault appears while parking, reversing, accelerating hard, once hot or when torque shifts through the AWD system.
| What you notice | How owners often describe it | Possible areas to investigate |
|---|---|---|
| Parking-speed shudder | “It shakes when I creep forward.” | PDK clutch wear, adaptation, mechatronic |
| Reverse unavailable | “It will not select Reverse.” | Selector, clutch path, actuator, speed/position sensor |
| RPM flare | “It revs before drive catches.” | PDK clutch slip, pressure loss |
| Hot harsh shift | “It gets jerky once fully warm.” | Pressure, temperature, mechatronic, clutch values |
| AWD clunk | “It knocks as power transfers.” | PTM, driveshaft, differential, mounts |
Macan codes should be read with PDK clutch and mechatronic data plus PTM/AWD information where the complaint involves vibration or torque transfer.
| Fault / code family | Broad area | What should be checked |
|---|---|---|
| Clutch adaptation faults | 7-speed PDK | Clutch wear, kiss points, temperature and adaptation |
| Gear-selector faults | Mechatronic | Actuator travel, selected/actual gear and sensors |
| Hydraulic / pressure faults | PDK control | Pump, pressure values, solenoids and leakage |
| Speed / ratio faults | Transmission state | Input/output speed and clutch slip |
| PTM / AWD faults | Driveline | Torque distribution, transfer components and differentials |
On the Macan, stored codes should be interpreted with the exact gearbox, freeze-frame information and live drivetrain values before a complete transmission replacement is considered.
Macan PDK repair pricing depends on whether the vehicle needs clutch, mechatronic, hydraulic or internal work, while PTM faults are priced separately.
| Porsche Macan gearbox work | Typical guide range | What can change the price? |
|---|---|---|
| PDK diagnostic scan and road test | From £30 | Engine, performance grade and AWD testing |
| PDK clutch / adaptation repair | Approx. £1.2k - £2.5k+ | Clutch wear and parts required |
| Mechatronic / hydraulic repair | Approx. £1.1k - £2.6k+ | Control fault and contamination |
| PTM / AWD driveline repair | Approx. £900 - £2.4k+ | Fault location and component damage |
| Full PDK reconditioning | Approx. £2.8k - £5.5k+ | Internal wear and performance specification |
Confirm ICE Macan seven-speed PDK versus Macan Electric and identify the exact drivetrain code.
Read clutch, mechatronic, pressure, gear-selection, temperature and PTM data.
Reproduce the pull-away, reverse, hot-running or AWD-load complaint on the road.
Quote the clutch, mechatronic, internal or PTM repair shown by the diagnosis.

Porsche Macan PDK and PTM diagnosis is available across the South East for petrol and diesel Macan models.
The page also clearly separates Macan Electric from PDK-equipped cars so Google and AI systems can return the correct transmission answer for each drivetrain.

Petrol and diesel Macan models use a seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) dual-clutch transmission.
Clutch wear, adaptation values, mechatronic control or hydraulic pressure can cause low-speed shudder.
A clutch-path, selector, actuator, speed-sensor or mechatronic fault can prevent Reverse from engaging.
Yes. Clutch, mechatronic, hydraulic and internal PDK repairs may be possible depending on the confirmed fault.
Yes. AWD torque-transfer, differential or related driveline faults can create clunks and vibration that owners often attribute to the PDK.
No. Macan Electric uses electric drive units and reduction gearing rather than the seven-speed PDK fitted to combustion-engine Macans.
For a Macan drivetrain complaint, confirm seven-speed PDK versus electric drive and separate clutch/mechatronic symptoms from PTM/AWD faults.
